We have a lot of bare walls in our house still, I have some commitment issues when it comes to putting up art and making holes all around my house. But I also want the art in my house to speak to me, to make me happy when I see them, to tell me story, to remind me of something, and to look good in the space. Oh and both hubby & I have to love them all. Such an easy task isn’t it? Now do you understand why the walls are so bare? We also want to have as much Sikh Art in our home as possible.
Our walls should speak about our rich culture, heritage and faith. I also want to support Sikh and Punjabi artists because if you know one thing about This Mama, I want it to be that “representation matters.” Diversity and representation in that diversity is important in ALL areas, including the walls of my home.
So I have complied some of my favourite artists for you, some have beautiful Sikh Art, others offer a blend of South Asian art both traditional and contemporary, and all of which I would love to have in my home!
Angela Aujla Art
Angela is based in the Greater Toronto Area and one of my first Sikh Art finds. She is a Sikh mom and a contemporary visual artist. I adore her work and how she tells a story of her Canadian identity along with her Sikh roots.
Art of Punjab
When you think of Sikh Art, the beautiful images painted by Kanwar Singh is usually what comes to my mind. His work blends a documentary style with the beauty of traditional portraits.
Bhupinder Singh
Bhupinder Singh is an Indo – Canadian artist who mostly works in water colours. He says that his “Sikh paintings primarily reflect my ideas of Sikh History from what I learnt from the elders.” I love the detail and softness of his work both those that depict Sikh Art and the Canadian landscape. I’m currently deciding on what piece I should invest in!
Kiranjot Art
I am excited for this one because I have commissioned some fun pieces for my girls’ for their rooms.

The Neela Collective
I have several framed prints from The Neela Collective. They beautifully depict scenes from Vaisakhi and Bandi Chhor Divas. Currently their online shop is closed, but you can follow them on instagram for more information here.
Other Notable Artists:
Meera Sethi
I was first introduced to Meera Sethi with her Aunty Series: Upping the aunty. Fun, quirky and colourful she uses street style photographs meet adult colouring books and explores the Desi Aunty style. While her art doesn’t fall under Sikh Art, it is colourful, creative and a modern homage to Desi Culture.
I also love Cheeky Billo, Ragni Agarwal, Keerat Kaur
Art Collection as Memories:
Through our travels, we also get our photos taken professionally (see some of there here) and have them framed for our walls whenever we can. I also love to try to pick up special keepsakes that are both souvenirs and art for our home. I have also gotten posters from Amazon and from allposters.com (yes for real). This was way back before Artists were able to use social media and Etsy to showcase and sell their own art directly.
Tip: It is worth the investment in getting a professional art installer – yes really. The amount of time and drywall you will save in hiring a professional to hang your art and photographs will give you such peace of mind. I use artstall to get the job done!
I’m always looking for new artists to support, so drop me any of your suggestions in the comments below!
