There’s been a lot of recent talk about the death of the skinny jeans. I’m not okay with it to be honest. It took me an awful long time to even come to terms with them in the first place. Remember 2006? Yeah, me neither.
But I do remember the first time I tried on a pair of skinny jeans. It was in Anthropologie, which normally doesn’t steer me wrong. But that day, I thought they were wrong. But alas, it was me. My love affair for the skinny jean has gone on for almost 15 years now. I love them. The end.
Ok, not the end, but it kind of should be no? My first rule of fashion is this: wear what you want to wear. So if skinny jeans make me happy, then I should wear them. I am partial to them because they have way more structure than a legging and I need some structure in my life. There’s also pockets. So add 100 points for that. Also, they can be any length and they don’t look wrong. Too short for my tall frame, well the cropped look is intentional. Too long for, well not my long frame exactly, but so many options for a cute roll.
They can be dressed up or down and are my favourite thing to wear (when I have to leave my house. Let’s not undersell my love of my sweatpants right now). But nothing is easier than a white t-shirt or a white button and a pair of skinny jeans. It’s basically my favourite thing to wear. My all time favourite pair of skinny jeans happen to be The rocket skinny by Citizen of Humanity.
Skinny Jeans & a white t-shirt:
The easiest formula to look (and feel) pulled together is a dark skinny jeans and a white shirt. This is basically the equivalent to your favourite jogger set. What you do with these basics is up to you. But throwing on a cozy oversized cardigan and a pair of white sneakers is a perfect outfit to transition between seasons.
Skinny jeans polished:
Who says you can’t wear jeans a t-shirt for work? I’m pretty sure casual Fridays were created for the skinny jean. Take the same white t-shirt and jeans, add in a belt, blazer and a pair of flats and you are ready for zoom meetings, or maybe real life for a real life meeting someday.
Make ’em Casual:
Need to swap out your sweatpants? Throw on a pair of jeans with your oversized sweatshirt. It creates balance and looks good with a little front tuck and a pair of white sneakers.
Still not convinced?
I can’t help you really if you aren’t convinced about the skinny jean yet. But I will try to lure to the skinny jean side by throwing in a cozy, soft sweater and a fancy clutch. Add in some flats and it really it’s a classic look.
Ok, it’s laundry day and time to wash that white t-shirt you say? Swap it out for a white button down. There are so many ways to style a white button down, but let’s start with these:
Night out:
I believe the skinny jean is a classic, like a white button down shirt. So pair two classics together, add some fun accessories and it’s a look that can take you anywhere.
Fashion has a lot of trends that come and go. It can be hard to keep up, I get it. But at the end of the day, dress how you want to. Your body type, personal style and budget all matter more than a trend.
