It looks like working from home is the new normal. I’m not mad about it. Except my fellow co-workers can be a little demanding and expect a hot lunch everyday. But it’s the sacrifice one makes to be able to work in comfort. And by comfort I mean, comfy clothes. My work from home outfits have been a little lackluster, and most of the time it doesn’t matter. But with zoom calls and being on camera being the substitute for face to face interaction, there is a little style dilemma.
You can have comfort and fool your zoom coworkers into thinking your work from home outfits are professional. Here’s a few tips for your next work from home look:
Sweatpants for life:
I dedicated a whole post to my love affair to sweatpants (read it here). Sweatpants are here to stay for awhile (yay!). They don’t have to ruin your whole professional vibe either. Try picking sweatpants that are in more technical fabrics, with a slimmer cut and keeping them in neutral tones. No one can tell if black sweatpants aren’t dress pants from a computer screen!. I love these ones from Artizia in a soft knit fabric.
The Cardigan is Back:
Look – it never actually went away. But it did take a back seat to the hoodie for awhile. But why not use a cardigan to spruce up a pair of joggers? A long cardigan can be tossed over a matching jogger and t-shirt (like in the above photo). Or you could wear a cropped cardigan and button it for zoom meetings. Pick up one in a bright colour or flattering colour. It will help brighten and warm you complexion up on screen. It works just like a filter! In case you needed a reminder of my love affair of cardigans, watch this
Leggings – for when your sweats are in the laundry:
I am not a huge fan of leggings. I know its an unpopular opinion. But alas, its all mine. You could absolutely wear a pair of leggings you plan on working out in (its called multitasking). Throw on a cardigan, blazer or a sweater and no one needs to know you are actually wearing a sports bra and your rosy cheeks and slicked back hair held by sweat are from you workout. You could also be super fancy and wear leather leggings. I like an oversized button up shirt over a pair of leggings too. My favourite leggings if I had to pick are the align leggings from Lululemon.
An actual work from home outfit: with a blazer:
So you’ve got a big meeting coming up. Or you need to feel like you are being more productive. Or maybe your blazer is calling out to you and needs to be dusted. Throw on a blazer over a plain t-shirt and a pair of jeans (yes those. It’s a good idea to try them on once a week. Ok, once a month). It’s the closest outfit to what life will be back in the real world. You know, when we can leave our houses again and have to go into work. We need to wean ourselves back into the real world.
